At Apex Mezzanines, we’ve had the pleasure of working with a variety of businesses, each with its own unique challenges. Our recent project was for a fast-growing local business that needed more storage space—fast. But it wasn’t just about stacking up more shelves. The storage had to be practical, easy to access, and safe for their team to use.
Here’s how we approached the project and helped the business stay on track as they continued to grow.
The Need: More Storage and Easy Access
The client needed extra storage space, but not just any kind of storage—what they really needed was something that allowed them to move stock in and out of the space quickly and easily. Given that they work with heavy materials, forklift access was essential. They also wanted to make sure the mezzanine was designed for safety, with clear access and compliance with the necessary standards.
The Design: Tailored for the Job
Our team worked closely with the client to design a mezzanine that would meet their specific needs. We incorporated a sliding gate that made it simple for forklifts to load and unload stock directly onto the mezzanine. This setup helped avoid congestion and kept the workflow moving smoothly.
The stairs were built to meet the AS1657 standard, making sure they were safe and easily accessible for the team. The handrails were designed to comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) requirements for non-habitable spaces, ensuring that the entire mezzanine was up to code.
The Materials: Built for Durability
The mezzanine was built to handle the heavy use the client anticipated, with a floor made from 21mm plywood and joists set at 400mm centres. This gave the mezzanine a solid, reliable structure capable of carrying a 3 kPa load capacity, which was important for the client’s daily operations.
The Installation: Fast and Safe
One of the most important aspects of this project was minimizing disruption to the client’s business. They were busy, and they couldn’t afford long delays. So, our team worked hard to complete the installation quickly. In just two days, we had the 60-square-metre mezzanine installed and ready for use. To ensure the process went smoothly, we provided two scissor lifts and a forklift, making the installation both efficient and safe.

The finished mezzanine is exactly what the client needed—additional storage that fits their business, is easy to access, and meets all safety requirements. It’s been a great addition to their operation, helping them keep up with the demands of their growing business.
