Experience a new standard in mezzanine design and construction with Apex Mezzanines – where efficiency is our number one priority.

Mezzanine Design & Engineering

We have learnt the versatility and nuances of C Purlins and Structural Beams at Apex Mezzanines.

Purlins offer a cost-effective and lightweight solution for mezzanine floor construction, while Structural Beams provide robust support where needed.

By combining these elements, we create mezzanine floors that are not only highly competitively priced in the Brisbane & Gold Coast market but also optimised for efficiency. Our approach allows for a seamless integration of both components, ensuring a durable raised storage structure that meets your specific needs.

We believe we can find the perfect blend of strength and affordability with our Purlins and Structural Beam solutions, or a combination of both, at Apex Mezzanines.

With detailed span charts and load capacity specifications, we can quickly assess the feasibility and requirements of a client’s project.

We run concurrent engineering and manufacturing processes to maximise time to ensure great lead times. No waiting around for an Engineer to sign off before we start manufacturing your custom mezzanine floor.

Spans & Weight Capacities

Our Purlin Mezzanine Floor Systems can span up to 6 metres and Structural Mezzanine Floor Systems go up to and beyond 7m, our quality materials and adherence to industry standards guarantee a durable and safe mezzanine floor structure.

As the load capacity of a Mezzanine increases, generally so do the members, joists and flooring sheets. For example we generally use 22mm Red-Tongue structural grade particleboard sheet flooring for 1.5kPa (~150kg per square metre) and 3kPa (~300kg per square metre) floors but for 5kPa (~500kg per square metre) we have to step up to a 21mm Plywood Flooring.

We have many Australian Standards and National Construction Codes to navigate so let us handle the technical stuff while you focus on what you do best.

Supply Chain

Our commitment to efficiency extends to our supply chain partnerships with industry leaders such as Stratco, Levelmaster, Metroll, and International Panels.

By building strong relationships with our local Queensland suppliers, we gain valuable insight into their business models, strengths, and operational practices. This enables us to leverage their expertise to the fullest extent, ensuring efficient and seamless collaboration in delivering top-quality mezzanine flooring solutions to our clients throughout Brisbane, The Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and all other areas in South East Queensland.

Our Mezzanine Floor Process

Although simple in theory, custom mezzanine floors still require good design and planning to be executed properly.

Generally, the ideal project would run as per the below:

  1. Discussion about the project requirements/ scope of works. If site plans or exact dimensions are not available, we will book in a time to meet in person and measure the proposed mezzanine floor site.
  2. Once the scope is established, we will then custom design your Mezzanine Floor in detail. We don’t give estimates or square metre rates – We quote every single nut and bolt in the project. This is time consuming for us however it ensures the quote is transparent with nothing hidden.
  3. Once the final mezzanine floor design and quote is approved by the client, we invoice for the Structural Engineering aspect of the project and our Engineer approves the designs.
  4. Shop Drawings are created, we order the Materials required and establish a project timeline and installation date.
  5. For Supply Only, we deliver the materials, drawings and packing lists. If installation is required our builders install our Mezzanine as per the design, clean the site, remove Material Handling Equipment and the job is complete.

Mezzanine Floor Prices in Brisbane & The Gold Coast

It isn’t possible to give a one size fits all price for Mezzanine Flooring as there are a number of variables which affect the final cost such as load capacity, height, type of flooring, stair & handrail requirements, forklift access and more.

However we understand that many of our potential clients would like at least a ballpark indication of cost.

As a general guide, pricing for the supply only of a mezzanine (in Brisbane) without flooring, handrail, or staircase ranges from $250-$350 per square metre – whereas a fully installed mezzanine flooring system including flooring, handrails and stairs will typically cost between $350-$600 per square metre depending on your requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our process is unique to us as you deal with our team inhouse every step of the way. We are happy to come out to measure your site or if you have the approximate dimensions and some photos or plans/ drawings add them to the contact us page.

We’ll get back to you with an initial design and quote so you can ensure the layout suits your application – From there we will make the adjustments required based on your feedback and finalise the quote. Once you approve the final design it’s approximately 3 weeks for delivery of your Mezzanine. We also offer installation and can include this in your design and quote.

Offices will generally need to have access – Stairs and Balustrading to suit AS1428 and the National Construction Code. This just means instead of a typical Toe, Knee and Top Rail handrail system you will have verticals every 100mm.
The load capacity requirement of an office also varies to a Storage Mezzanine Floor so we take this into consideration in the design phase.

We can install Mezzanines below 100m2 in 3 x days. So roughly 30m2 per day.

Obviously there are some variables such as height, handrails, staircases etc. We use highly skilled and qualified installers for all our Mezzanine projects. They are well versed in our system and you would be surprised at how quickly it takes to put up your Mezzanine. Check out our recent work here to get an idea of the size of mezzanine and the time it took.

Included in your install is the necessary equipment to make the process seamless, often we will have a scissor lift and or forklift on site and sometimes a skip bin too to ensure there is no sign we have even been there!

Should you choose to install your Mezzanine Floor yourself or have a local builder do it for you, our Mezzanine system includes everything you need in order to get it up including detailed plans of the process. We are only a call or email away should you need any support.

The tools required are general handy tools including a measuring tape, level, circular saw, hammer drill and drill. The type of mezzanine going into a shed or warehouse should only take a couple of days install.

Mezzanine Parts and Components

These are the Steel posts that form the vertical part of the frame of your Mezzanine structure.  These posts are bolted to the floor & what size they are and how many will vary depending on the load capacity, height and span of your Mezzanine Floor. We have some flexibility in our design process to get them as out of the way as possible, and we will always work with you to find the best solution that is structurally sound & engineered.

Also known as ‘Beams’ these members are the load bearing part of the mezzanine that run horizontally and bolt to the top of your columns or posts. We use two Purlins bolted together or PFC’s and Universal Beams. Like your Columns, these will change size and shape depending on the spans and load capacity required in your Mezzanine Floor Design.

These are purlins that form the structure between your bearers. They can be bolted between the bearers to reduce height or can run across the top if the design requires this. Generally spaced at 400mm or 450mm centres to suit the flooring sheets that sit on top and are screwed down,

Brackets are used to connect your joists to the bearers. They come in many different shapes and sizes to ensure different sized members all marry up to the correct heights.

Our Mezzanines utilize various types of hardware from screw bolts to fix the columns to the slab, through to Purlin Bolts for Joist connections and wingtek screws to fix down your flooring.

Our stairs are custom made by our local Steel fabricator to suit each Mezzanine height. There are a few standards to navigate here – AS1657 and AS1428 so once we know your requirements we will manufacture them to suit. You have the option to use our stairs, create access to an existing set on site or source your own.

We will always offer you the latest and up to date advice regarding the type of handrail you need in order to comply with Australian Safety Standards. Like the stairs, we need to work out if we need to design to AS1657 or AS1428.

If your Mezzanine is being used to store stock or pallets that need to be regularly rotated, we can explain the options you have for adding gates or sliding gates to the Mezzanine for easy access and the best solution for its use in your shed or warehouse.

This is the load capacity per square metre. We regularly recommended 3kPa for home sheds or domestic use and 5Kpa in commercial settings in warehouses, but again we will provide custom advice for your solution.

This is the distance between the centre of the posts. The load capacity of your mezzanine will dictate the span. To put it simply, smaller loads = bigger spans and bigger loads = smaller spans. Though keep in mind we can change our members to suit the application and if required can make bigger spans = bigger loads.
